With hits that have crossed generations Earth, Wind & Fire is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed bands of the twentieth century. The band has spanned the musical genres of R&B, soul, jazz, pop, rock, funk, disco, Latin, African and gospel through their numerous platinum hits.

Earth, Wind & Fire recorded their debut album “Earth, Wind & Fire” (1970) with Warner Brothers. They followed up with their second release, “The Need of Love” (1971) which featured the single “I Think About Lovin’ You”, the group’s first Top 40 R&B hit.

After switching to Columbia Records, Earth, Wind & Fire released “Last Days and Time” (1972) an album that solidified group’s reputation for innovative recordings and exciting live shows. Their first gold album, “Head to the Sky” (1973) peaked at number 27 on the US Pop Charts and garnered hits “Evil” and the title track, “Head to the Sky”. Earth, Wind & Fire’s first platinum album, “Open Our Eyes” (1974), stemmed hits “Mighty Mighty” and “Kalimba Story,” which reached number four and number six on the US R&B Charts, respectively.

The group’s next album, “That’s The Way of the World” (1975), spawned some of Earth, Wind & Fire’s most beloved singles including “Shining Star”, “That’s the Way of the World” and the classic ballad “Reasons”. “Shining Star” earned the group their first Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Earth, Wind & Fire’s first live album, “Gratitude” (1975), held the number one spot on the US Pop Album Charts for three weeks. New tracks included “Singasong” which went gold and crept to number one on the US R&B Charts, “Can’t Hide Love”, and the popular radio singles “Celebrate” and “Gratitude”.

The multi-platinum album “Spirit” (1976) peaked at number two on the US Pop Charts for two weeks and boasted the chart topping singles “Getaway” and “Saturday Nite.”  Their next album “All ‘N All” (1977) reached number three on the US Pop Charts and won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and included the popular radio-aired album track “Love’s Holiday”.

Earth, Wind & Fire’s greatest-hits set “The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. I” (1978) went platinum and included a cover of the Beatles’ “Got to Get You into My Life” and the hit single “September”.  Both singles reached number one on the US R&B Charts. Earth, Wind & Fire followed up with “I Am” (1979), which featured the collaboration with The Emotions, “Boogie Wonderland”, and hit single “After the Love Has Gone”.  Their next album “Faces” (1980) was driven to gold status by singles “Let Me Talk”, “You” and “And Love Goes On”.

Earth, Wind & Fire’s next platinum album, “Raise!” (1981) topped the US R&B Charts at number one and featured the funky hit “Let’s Groove”. Their next gold album “Powerlight” (1983) included the Top Ten R&B single and Grammy-nominated “Fall in Love with Me.”

After a four year hiatus Earth, Wind & Fire reunited with the album “Touch the World” (1987) and scored yet another number one R&B single, “System of Survival”. The band then followed up with the release of “The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire Vol. II” (1988) and “Heritage” (1990).

Two years later, Earth, Wind & Fire released “The Eternal Dance” (1992) a 55-track boxed set retrospective of the band’s entire history followed by “Millennium” (1993), which included the Grammy-nominated single “Sunday Morning”.  Earth, Wind & Fire then released two greatest hits albums, “Elements of Love: Ballads” (1996) and “Boogie Wonderland: The Very Best of Earth, Wind & Fire” (1996) followed by “In the Name of Love” (1997) and “That’s The Way of the World: Alive In ’75 Live in Rio” (2002), which was recorded during the 1979 “I Am World Tour”.

In 2000, the nine-piece ’70s edition of Earth, Wind & Fire reunited for one night only in honor of their induction into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Following Earth, Wind & Fire’s induction, Eagle Rock Entertainment released the documentary “Earth, Wind & Fire: Shining Stars” (2001), an intimate look into the band with rarely seen historic video footage and with in-depth interviews with the band members. The new millennium brought Earth, Wind & Fire two more Grammy nominations with “Hold Me” a single off “The Promise” (2003) and “Show Me the Way” off the album “Illumination” (2005).

Earth, Wind & Fire’s most recent album “Now, Then & Forever” (2013) is the brainchild of music legend/bandleader Maurice White and is dedicated to the fans who have loved and supported Earth, Wind & Fire throughout the years. The first single off the album is “My Promise”.  “Now, Then & Forever” is the first studio album for the band in eight years. It debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 and number five on the top R&B album charts.

Philip Bailey, the lead singer for Earth, Wind & Fire chronicles band’s iconic rise to the top in his memoir “Shining Star” (2014). Bailey’s unique story is a look into what happens when real life exceeds your dreams, and the power of a legacy becomes something worth fighting and standing up for.
